We empower communities that live in the most polluted places on earth

Source International is a group of scientists and lawyers who work with communities to provide evidence of pollution and human rights abuses. This evidence enables them to stand up for their rights.

learn about what we do

Our research changes laws and lives

Source International works with communities affected by mining, industrial pollution and extractive supply chains. We collect independent scientific data on air, water, soil and health risks and use it to support advocacy, legal action and corporate accountability.

CErro de pasco, peru

For more than 15 years, we have worked with communities in Cerro de Pasco, one of the world’s most polluted mining cities. Our studies documented heavy metal contamination in water, soil, air and children’s exposure, helping communities demand health protection, remediation and accountability.

SUlawesi, indonesia

Indonesia’s nickel boom is powering the global EV battery supply chain, but communities in Sulawesi are living with the pollution it leaves behind. Together with local partners, we monitor environmental contamination and document the human rights impacts of mining, smelting and industrial expansion.

COPPER-COBALT BELT, DRC

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, we are documenting the hidden costs of copper and cobalt mining for communities living near large-scale mines. Our analysis found widespread air, water and sediment pollution — evidence that communities can use to demand clean water, health assessments and remediation.

Since 2009, we have worked with over 40 communities in more than 20 countries, on 5 continents.

Independent science, built with communities

Source International works where environmental harm is happening: collecting field data, turning it into evidence, and supporting communities seeking environmental justice.

FIELD BASED EVIDENCE

We collect and analyse environmental data directly in affected territories - from air, water and soil to sediments and biological samples - producing evidence that communities can use.

on the ground expertise

Our team works in complex industrial, mining and conflict-affected contexts, combining scientific methods with practical field experience and long-term local partnerships.

community led action

We work side by side with local organisations and residents, helping transform data into advocacy, legal action, public awareness and accountability.
