Source International launches its new donation campaign with the Global Giving support.

We are inviting all of you to give hopeness to the peruan communities of Cerro de Pasco, who are facing terrible health problems caused by mining activities in the region, to live in a better environment and improving their health situation. The environment is completely polluted by toxic elements that expose inhabitants to physical and psycological illnesses. Most of them need urgently to be hospitalize for the high level of heavy metals in their blood. We will perform biological analysis: hair and blood tests for 200 people to monitor their health situation. We will analyze water and sediments of the main polluted rivers to verify the environmental situation of the region. Final goals

• Using these data to formally file complaints to the UN Special Rapporteur on Toxic Wastes and UN Special Rapporteur on Mental and Physical Health in according to obtain indemnizations for the inhabitants and pressuring the government to take a serious action for this huge problem.
• Enable local leaders to setup and perform a basic environmental and social monitoring system.
• The project could even be used as an example project for community-extractive industries negotiations all around the world.
